Front Porch has had a long and fruitful collaborative relationship with the EXCEL Office at University of Michigan, being named EXCELerator Fellows in 2018-19 and receiving important mentorship from EXCEL's staff on getting a young ensemble off the ground. Here, members of Front Porch appear on a panel alongside fellow Ann Arbor-based ventures Virago and Third Place to discuss the creation of unique, community-focused performances. The panel will discuss staging performances in non-traditional spaces, engaging with diverse audiences, and navigating traditional performance constructs such as atmosphere, programs, and seating arrangements, as well as a Q&A. And best of all, there's free pizza!

Front Porch presents the results of a fruitful collaboration with the Millenium Composers Initiative, premiering five new works by composers from around the world: Duncan Peterson-Jones, Isaac Mayhew, Ali Balighi, Conner Shaw, and Eddie Jonathan García Borbon. Each work is about an environmental issue that is important in its composer's particular locale. Together, alongside Evan Premo's Earth's Invocation, these works paint a vivid picture of the dangers facing our planet.

One of Front Porch's biggest projects of the year, this concert will feature four premieres of works by Corey Dundee, Douglas Hertz, Nina Shekhar, and Jung Yoon Wie, three of which were commissioned through a generous grant from the University of Michigan Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Set in UMMA's beautiful Apse, the show invites the audience to explore the diverse voices of the southeastern Michigan community through music that is both deeply personal and globally important.
